Creating life-like creatures from textiles and clay.

Flóki (Sculpture, 2022)

Not long after an incident in remote north Iceland where I almost lost my life, I saw Icelandic horses running through the snow. I noticed how they appeared to be immune to the below freezing temperatures, thriving in a seemingly uninhabited landscape. A few elements of this sculpture are borrowed from the unique horses of Iceland, combined with the global mythology of the unicorn.

I created the sculpture over several weeks by building a metal armature, then working around that with fabric, paper, and clay.

An assortment of other creatures, masks, puppets, and props I have created can be viewed below, inspired by 1980s fantasy films, the work of Jim Henson, the classic illustrations of Brian Froud, and mythology and folklore from around the world.
